Sociology And Social Science Management

Question: Write an essay on Sociology And Social Science? Answer: Introduction No matter how advance human being become, they will never stop discriminating between male and female. The society has a tendency to stereotype certain professions either for male or female. There are various social and cultural factors that stereotype the professions, and it is due to these factors that people from the opposite gender are deprived of pursuing career according to the choice of the individual. One of the biggest examples of stereotyping career is the career of a nurse. It is an age-old notion that only women are made for the nursing career (Eliopoulos, 2010). The development of such a notion is still unclear. There can be various social, cultural or historical factors behind this notion: Florence Nightingale used to nurse wounded soldiers Women are always portrayed as a figure that always cares for people Films that always portrayed a female as a nurse. All these factors are depriving those men who want to take up nursing as a career. It is the society that does not let an individual take up a career according to the individuals choice. Mainly history is responsible for stereotyping the nursing career as the career for the female. Florence Nightingale along with 38 female nurses started to care for the men injured in the Crimean War in England. There have been examples of men forming a group to treat plague victims in ancient Rome. In addition to this, the first American nurses were a group of individuals where most of the people were male (Willis Elmer, 2011). In spite of this, the nursing career became a female-oriented career especially when United States Nurse Corp was formed in the year 1991. In addition to history as a factor, social factors also contribute to stereotype nursing as a female-oriented career. It is often seen that women are called nurse while men are called male nurse. The society should know that nurse is a career, not a gender (McLaughlin, T. Muldoon Moutray, 2015). The percentage of male nurses is low worldwide. As per the study, the percentage of male nurses in the United States and Canada recorded a percentage of 10% in 2006 and 9% in 2001 respectively. The European countries like the United Kingdom and Netherlands recorded a percentage of 10% in the year 2003 and 23% in the year 2000 respectively when it came to male nurses. The percentage of male nurses in the Middle East countries like Jordan and Lebanon are 25% in the year 2011 and 19% in the year 2000 respectively (kelvin, 2015). There are other professional factors. Though there are men who work as the nurse in various departments, yet, the problem arises in the gynaecology department. Many women had expressed uneasiness when men touched the private parts. Conclusion Thus, it can be said it the social factors that hugely affect the career of men as nurses. There can be men who want to become a nurse by choice, but it is the notion created in the society regarding female nurse stops the male population from taking up nursing as a career. Management of Change Operational Methods

Question: Discuss about theManagement of Changefor Operational Methods. Answer: Topic 1 Organisational change can be identified as one of the most fundamental strategies to modify the existing management structure, operational methods, and current set of business strategies so that the productivity of the firm will be enhanced over the time (Hughes, 2007). In order to endure success in the contemporary business environment, modern organisations need to adapt latest information technology and strategic intervention to be competitive. Meanwhile, by identifying the drivers of change, an organisation can establish the best management as well as strategic concepts leading towards growth. According to the changing demand of the target demographics as well as the economic condition, the enterprises need to reassign the management model. Precisely, organisational change can improve the standards of business dynamics in the competitive market to stay a step ahead of the competitors. The rapidly changing market and globalisation opportunities have created significant ways to increase growth for a contemporary business organisation. Therefore, in order to develop the organisations market prospect, organisational change management can be recognised as one of the most comprehensive factors (Senior, 2002). Understandably, the management must identify the scope and nature of organisational change leading to organisational development. For instance, each of the modern organisations has valued technological development more than anything else. Meanwhile, by using e-commerce platform, a contemporary business firm such as Coles Supermarket Australia Pty Ltd has made significant changes in the human resources management by including well-trained employees supportive for e-marketing as well as sales. Also, the latest information technology and communication channels have been instrumentally introduced in the management structure leading to organisational change. Hence, exqu isite organisational development can be made by identifying the scale and scope of the organisational change management. Topic 2 According to the research of McKinsey Company, more than 70 percent large organisations fail to effective implement changes as per their desired goals. The primary reasons for the failure are the lack of skills and knowledge, the high pace of implementing change, lack of planning and research, and culture working against change. Hence, it is important for the top level executives to adequately assess the outcomes of the planned changes before implementing them in the operations of the firm (Hughes, 2007). Two examples of the failure of change management have been presented herein below: Old and Narrow Metrics: An excellent example of change program failure is the old and narrow parameters of Nokia. During the success phase of Nokia, it did not consider Samsung and Apple as its competitors. But, when it found that the change is required for the companys survival, it became too late for the organisation to implement changes in its policy (Hughes, 2007). The change process ended up with the sale of the company to Microsoft Corporation. Hence, it is important to have a tight watch on the market and maintain a higher position to implement changes in an appropriate way. Too fast change: Making changes too quickly can be a risky and bold move for an organisation. Nationals board hired a new CEO Brian Halla, who tried to shift the company from low-cost analog semiconductor chip producer to a microprocessor based chips producers for a new age of information appliances (Tobak, 2009). The changes were made too fast that was not acceptable to the employees and its customers. The changes resulted in a loss of billion dollars and made the company start its operations from the beginning. References Hughes, M. (2007). The Hunchback Of Notre Dame Monologue Essay Example For Students

The Hunchback Of Notre Dame Monologue Essay A monologue from the novel by Victor Hugo NOTE: This monologue is reprinted from Victor Hugo\s Works. Trans. Isabel F. Hapgood. New York: Kelmscott Society, 1896. PRIEST: Oh! Have pity upon me! You think yourself unhappy; alas! alas! you know not what unhappiness is. Oh! to love a woman! to be a priest! to be hated! to love with all the fury of one\s soul; to feel that one would give for the least of her smiles, one\s blood, one\s vitals, one\s fame, one\s salvation, one\s immortality and eternity, this life and the other; to regret that one is not a king, emperor, archangel, God, in order that one might place a greater slave beneath her feet; to clasp her night and day in one\s dreams and one\s thoughts, and to behold her in love with the trappings of a soldier and to have nothing to offer her but a priest\s dirty cassock, which will inspire her with fear and disgust! To be present with one\s jealousy and one\s rage, while she lavishes on a miserable, blustering imbecile, treasures of love and beauty! To behold that body whose form burns you, that bosom which possesses so much sweetness, that flesh palpitate and blush beneath the kisses of an other! Oh heaven! to love her foot, her arm, her shoulder, to think of her blue veins, of her brown skin, until one writhes for whole nights together on the pavement of one\s cell, and to behold all those caresses which one has dreamed of, end in torture! To have succeeded only in stretching her upon the leather bed! Oh! these are the veritable pincers, reddened in the fires of hell. Oh! blessed is he who is sawn between two planks, or torn in pieces by four horses! Do you know what that torture is, which is imposed upon you for long nights by your burning arteries, your bursting heart, your breaking head, your teeth-knawed hands; mad tormentors which turn you incessantly, as upon a red-hot gridiron, to a thought of love, of jealousy, and of despair! Young girl, mercy! a truce for a moment! a few ashes on these live coals! Wipe away, I beseech you, the perspiration which trickles in great drops from my brow! Child! torture me with one hand, but caress me with the other! Have pity, y oung girl! Have pity upon me! What Are Some Part Time Jobs You Can Do From Home

What Are Some Part Time Jobs You Can Do From Home you see the ads all the time online: work from home! many thousands of dollars! never leave your couch! if, like some of us, your dream job involves working while you watch old sitcoms in the background and wear your ugliest, comfiest slippers, pitches like those can be awfully tempting. the trick is deciding ahead of time what might be a genuine opportunity for a flexible career, and what’s likely to be a giant scam sandwich. 1. why seek part time jobs you can do from home?2.  what are your options?3.  how about the freelance life?4.  beware of scamswhy seek part time jobs you can do from home?there are tons of reasons why you might want a job that allows you to be at home, or has a flexible schedule.you’re a parent or a caregiver, and being away from home 40-50 hours a week just isn’t feasible.you’ve just moved someplace new, and need to pay bills while you look for a more traditional full-time job.you need better work-life balance than you’ ve gotten from traditional jobs.you work well under your own initiative, and want the independence of your own work space.you’re on a specific career path that doesn’t necessarily jibe with your current location, because most of the jobs in your industry are elsewhere.your experience is in a field that can be conducted via phone or email from anywhere (sales, marketing, etc.).you want a second job that can be done in your off hours. whether you’re looking to find part-time work that you can do flexibly, or a career stepping stone, you’re part of a growing group that wants to create opportunities outside of the usual. companies, too, are starting to realize that having a flexible workforce can be cheaper and more convenient, and lets them find employees who bring skills to the table, but might not be available for a brick-and-mortar location.what are your options?some industries lend themselves to flexible work arrangements better than others. for example, if you’re a nurse, you kind of need to be there in person to treat patients. but if you’re a medical billing manager, you might not need to be there in person. according to forbes, some of the top industries that are offering remote work opportunities include:healthcaresalesmarketingphilanthropy/fundraisinginformation technologyeducation (tutoring, online learning)the internet (and the resulting boom in telecommunications) has really broadened everyone’s horizons about what’s possible outside of the traditional office/cubicle†¦these days, it’s almost as easy to â€Å"attend† a meeting in beijing as it is to attend a meeting in your boss’s office. programs like skype, google hangouts, and webex make it easy to collaborate with colleagues all over the country and world- so why not extend that to people looking to work from home?although the standard model (the in-person, 40-hour work week) is still the career template for most ind ustries, companies are starting to see the advantages of having a flexible, location-agnostic staff. some of the top companies that offer remote work opportunities include biggies like apple, u.s. government agencies, salesforce.com, insurance companies, online universities, and it companies.traditionally, many of these work-from-home jobs have been phone-based, where companies have you perform customer service or make cold calls from your own location. the majority of the jobs still fall into this category, but now they’re increasingly including behind-the-scenes work online, or jobs where you can chat with clients or coworkers via video.how about the freelance life?if you’re looking for a side hustle or part-time work to tide you over for a period of time, you might want to look at becoming a freelancer, or contract worker. freelancing can be great if you have a  very specific sets of skills, and are disciplined enough to set your own work agenda and timelines. it also allows you to take things on a project basis, rather than a set commitment to a job with specific parameters. according to entrepreneur, careers that work well with freelancing include:accountant/bookkeeperappraiserchefcomputer programmercorporate event therapistmedical administration/billingpackage designparty plannerphotographerpolitical consultantprivate investigatorprofessional organizersalespersonseamstresstelemarketertranslator/interpretertutorupholstererweb designerwriterthese are all jobs that require special skill sets, but not necessarily a full-time commitment. if you do go the freelance route, it’s a more challenging road than many part-time opportunities, because you need to go out and rustle up clients, examples of your work, and a process for payment and payi ng taxes. but if you have an entrepreneurial spirit, and want to create your own part-time job opportunities, it could e the way to go.beware of scamsrule of thumb: if it sounds too good to be true (stop me if you’ve heard this one), it probably is. if you learned about this great new opportunity in the comments section of your favorite website, approach it with a healthy dose of skepticism. especially if the â€Å"ad† doesn’t tell you what the job is, and is riddled with spelling and grammar issues.***my roommate’s cousin makes $8000 a week for six 6 hours of work at home!!! she used to be broke, and now she’s hanging out with oprah. click here for your ticket to $$$$!!***scam. walk away. always do your own research. legitimate job listings will tell you:the company you’d be working foran outline of what the job islegit contact informationthe safest way to approach this is to search for jobs yourself, rather than take bait left in crumbs ar ound the internet. whenever you do come across a listing that sounds promising, google the heck out of it to see what others are saying about it.jobs that should set off your alarm bells:mystery/secret shopper jobs, which pay you to visit stores and give feedback. i know at least one person who does occasional mystery shopping jobs, but the shady job offers outnumber genuine positions by a crazy amount. you should do a lot of online research first to make sure that it’s a legitimate company.job offers that arrive mysteriously in your email inbox, from an address you don’t recognize. (as opposed to outreach emails that might come to you through linkedin or other social media.)any job that requires you to invest money up front.any job that doesn’t offer direct contact information.scam jobs are a huge cottage industry for people with nefarious motives, and plenty of smart and savvy people can be taken in by a listing that sounds great at a time when you really need or want a convenient part-time job with little time investment and big rewards. this is especially true for sites like craigslist, where there are legitimate jobs sprinkled in with the scam listings. vigilance and information are your best allies here. via real ways to earn money onlinethe temptation is real, but again- job listings that sound suspiciously perfect but don’t offer a lot of follow-up information are not likely to be that shining unicorn of a career. let your instincts be your guide, but always, always verify with as much information as you can find. it’s great to have an internet-wide net for your potential new job, but it’s important to take advantage of said internet to make sure that you’re not falling prey to some evil plan. doing this due diligence can also help you make sure that you’re not doing something illegal, because if you’re signed on to a job that runs afoul of the law, you may find that your new â€Å"company † is nowhere to be found.if anything makes you feel uncomfortable at any point in the process of looking for or starting a new part-time/work-from-home job, trust that instinct, and don’t feel like you need to continue down that path.part-time jobs that let you work from home can be a godsend if you have a lifestyle that falls outside of the traditional 9-to-5 mold. it can be a way to maintain while you’re looking for the next phase of your career, or it can be a way to mold your career around other obligations in your life. as long as you approach the process with the same initiative and critical thinking as you’d apply for the traditional job search, then you’re likely to find some really great opportunities. good luck!

Bodily Effects of Hazardous Materials Research Paper

Bodily Effects of Hazardous Materials - Research Paper Example Some technologically advanced landfills also leak from time to time. The tanks used to store petroleum or chemicals can easily leak and catch fire. Tanks in the underground can weaken and leak their hazardous materials. There are many risks when transporting hazardous materials, for example, when trucks overturn or train crash. People can also dump hazardous materials in sewer systems, warehouses that are abandoned or remote areas, ditches to escape the costs of safe dumping. There are three routes of entry that hazardous materials enter into the body: ingestion, absorption, and inhalation (SYKLI, 2012). Health risks commonly linked with hazardous materials are grouped as acute and chronic. It is a must for one to get medical attention when one is exposed to harmful materials. Most of these exposures have treatment if one takes immediate action. Acute/ immediate effects result from a short-time exposure to hazardous substances. Some of the immediate warning signs include headaches, nausea, dizziness, skin, eye or respiratory damage or irritation, unconsciousness and even death. The most noticeable and common warning signs are skin, eye, and respiratory irritation. Occurrences of deaths are very rare, and the majority of these exposures can be treated if immediate attention is taken. Chronic/delayed effects occur after a long time exposure to hazardous materials. The exposure can also be very small over a lengthened period. The effects mainly target the liver and kidneys as all chemicals that get into the body pass through these organs. A perfect example of an unending health effect is called lung cancer from radon inhalation or cigarette smoke. There are some products that can cause large health risks, though used as directed. For instance, there are products taken off the market or banned due to their health or environmental risks, for example, those containing PCTs, PCBs, asbestos fibers, mercury, lead and arsenic

DEVELOPING YOUR PERSONAL MODEL OF LEADERSHIP Term Paper

DEVELOPING YOUR PERSONAL MODEL OF LEADERSHIP - Term Paper Example A leader’s success is measured by how positively or negatively he or she has impacted on the lives of the subjects (Chemers, p. 67). I have admired the leadership styles of many leaders, past and present, but the main leadership influence in my life is George Washington. Though I cannot exactly emulate Washington’s personal and leadership character traits, his type of leadership will be the template upon which my leadership skills and abilities will be honed. In fact, it is these leadership traits that made George Washington the first president of the United States of America. George Washington, was born as the first child, on 22nd February 1732, to Augustine Washington and Mary Ball Washington. Despite losing his father and many other siblings at an early age, his innate leadership skills were evident when he took over the management of his father’s estates and generally ran his family matters (Cornwell, p. 146). Washington’s leadership prowess was tested several times as he rose through various ranks in the independence wars. He served diligently in the American Revolution (1775-1783). As the commander-in-chief, he strategized the whole war, with the approval of the congress. He was also charged with recruiting, organizing and training the army. In a nutshell; he is credited with the victory of the American Revolution. Even after independence he went ahead to become the first president of the United States of America and undertook a supervisory role in the drafting of its very first constitution and in the laying of the many norms upon which the modern government of the US is based (Cornwell, p. 342). Looking at his life, especially his accomplishments, one cannot miss the personal attributes that a good leader should possess. First among these virtues is courage. Leaders must be courageous in all they do. Second, George Washington displayed humility despite all the power and influence he had. He was also a visionary. In addition t o these, he was hardworking, diligent and focused. Above all, he was a God fearing and prayerful family man. These are the virtues I admire in a leader. These are the values I take from George Washington. Coming from a modest background, my dream in life is to get to a position where I can help the less fortunate in society, a position of leadership where I can positively impact the lives of my countrymen. I yearn to change my country for the better of the future generations. As I pursue this dream, the values I want to hold close to my heart are hard work and humility. I will always work hard and be humble in the process, all the while thanking God for the achievements that come my way. The main assumption if given a leadership position is that all my subordinates will rally behind me in striving to achieve personal and organizational growth and other objectives. I believe leadership is divine, and the people normally place their hopes in the leader that all their problems will be solved. Thus, as a leader, I will always try not to betray the trust of my subordinates for the sake of personal selfish gains. Finally, my expectation of the world is that it becomes a safer home for all humanity with equal rights, opportunities, and freedom for everybody as far as the pursuance of happiness is concerned. These are my aspirations as a leader. Given a chance to serve

Social Issues Essay Example for Free

Social Issues Essay 1) What social issues do I feel strongly about? I feel strongly that the minimum wage should be raised because the lower class will be able to provide for themselves and their families. The government feels the lower your class, the lower the cost of living , which is not necessarily true. I think that it’s more expensive to live in a lower class area. For example in Dayton,Ohio, the cost of living is â€Å"low† as opposed to Atlanta,Georgia, and the high expense of living. At the wage it is at they will never be able to rise out of the poverty stricken levels. It seems like the cost of living and food is steady rising but the pay is slowing rising. Companies are making millions and even billions and its employees are barely able to make a decent living, while the higher ups need to take a pay cut. Employees who make minimum wage have a much higher stress load and are at the crossroads between paying the light bill or putting food on the table. Then you have the higher ups who seems to only have to decide where they want to go for vacation or what new car or house to buy. 2) How do I go about solving personal problems? When I need to solve a personal problem I try to first figure out what is causing the issue and what I can do to eliminate it. If that doesn’t help I seek help from family and friends who have the same issue or issues. I try to find someone who has experience and ask them what they have done to help them out. I also seek help from professional doctors, therapists, instructors and or counselors. I understand that some problems will not go away on their own or overnight so I make sure to not get overwhelmed. It was suggested that I take it one problem , one step and one day at a time. I have also learned that writing in journal or notebook has helped as well. I believe that listening to music and meditating are also great ways to reduce stress and solve problems. A lot of people tend to use violence as away to escape there problems. I on the other hand am totally against violence unless its really called for. When I feel overwhelmed, frustrated, angry,  stressed and hurt, it cause anxiety to kick in fullest extreme. 3) Do I readily seek help from others when I need it? I do not always seek help from others when i need it because I have found that a lot of people tend to give their personal opinions versus helpful advice. I do however seek help from a few individuals when every other option hasn’t helped or worked out. It depends on the issue and the person in whom I am asking. For example if I was in a situation and I needed advice I would probably sit and think of ways of figuring it out for at least three days before I would even consider seeking additional help. It’s not so much that I’m independent. I dont mind receiving help , I just rather be able to say I did this on my own. Some individuals end to feel that they are better than you when you seek help from them. 4) Which of my values would I like to change? I would like to change my focus and my ambition for my youngest son to go to college because I want that to be his decision.I do not want my focus and what I want for him to drown out his own focus or dreams in life. Of course, I want him to do well and excel in life but I want him to make his own decisions and choices so he does not resent me when he gets older. As his mother it is easy to want to plan his life, career choice, mate, house car, etc etc but I understand that he will be an adult and make his own choices and all I can do is raise him to be a respectable young man and teach him good home values. Also as his mother , I can be a positive role model for him. Some mothers tend to get angry with their children , when they see them doing the same behaviors they were showing. As my son gets older i wont do things around him, that i wouldnt want him doing as a man. I do know he will do what he feels is best for him. I just have to accept that my focus and ambition is to be the b est mother I can be for him.
